Dark Skinned Pavement
In a southern neighborhood still grieving the police killing of their teenage son, a daycare owner and her partially disabled husband are approached by a charismatic Black city councilman who wants their public endorsement for his mayoral run. He pitches a bold “dark skinned pavement” memorial initiative that would inscribe the names of slain Black children into the city’s streets, promising visibility, resources, and policy change. As media attention builds and political stakes rise, the couple must decide whether turning their private loss into public spectacle is a path toward justice or another way for the city to pave over their pain.
